Evaluation of Community Fire Safety
What we did
Investigated the correlations between socio-demographic indicators and the outcomes of Fire and Rescue Service activities. The work used Fire Data, Census data and indices of multiple deprivation data to draw out this information. Analysis methods include, factor analysis to reduce the census data set and then a multivariate regression model of the socio demographic fire risk factors.
Value/Benefit
The research provided a greater understanding of the effect of demographics on fire casualties and the identification of groups that are most at risk from fire. The results were presented to fire services to guide their work and assist in targeting community fire safety towards higher risk areas and households. They have also helped in the development of performance measures.
